StartSABS 2026
Your go-to resource for navigating Ontario's new auto insurance rules under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule, effective 2026.
Starting July 1, 2026, Ontario auto insurance shifts to an "à la carte" system. Only medical, rehabilitation, and attendant care benefits stay mandatory — everything else (income replacement, caregiver, death/funeral benefits, housekeeping, etc.) becomes optional add-ons you must actively select.
Existing policies renewing after July 1 keep current coverage unless you opt out in writing. New policies will only include the bare minimums by default.
Auto insurers also become the "first payer" for medical costs — you no longer need to exhaust workplace benefits first.

Streamline your audit preparation process. Stay organized, compliant, and confident when it matters most.
Following FMCSA minimum requirements is critical because non-compliance exposes carriers to significant consequences — including fines, out-of-service orders, and even loss of operating authority. The FMCSA conducts compliance reviews and audits that assign safety ratings, and a poor rating ("Conditional" or "Unsatisfactory") can damage a carrier's reputation, affect insurance premiums, and trigger increased roadside inspection scrutiny under the CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) program. Beyond the regulatory penalties, maintaining compliance protects drivers and the public, reduces liability exposure in the event of an accident, and demonstrates due diligence — which can be a decisive factor in litigation. Simply put, staying compliant isn't just about avoiding fines; it's about keeping your operating authority intact and your business viable.
